Co-locating farms and schools enhances educational programming, improves nutrition in school cafeterias, and helps to address health issues including childhood obesity, diabetes and other food related illness.
SCF has worked extensively with the Denver Green School to develop approved Denver Public Schools curriculum connecting students to the farm located on school grounds. We provide a living classroom for pre-K-8 students to study the natural environment and the food system, as well as learning hands-on through planting, harvesting, and other field activities. The farm also serves as a dynamic and ever-changing outdoor learning environment for a wide range of subjects including math, art, and science.
School Field Trips / Classroom Visits
SCF is a field trip destination for schools and summer camps, offering educational opportunities to a number of groups throughout the spring, summer, and fall. For groups that cannot visit the farm, we work to bring the farm to them through dynamic in-classroom presentations. This program provides unique learning opportunities for students from surrounding communities who do not yet have farms of their own.
