We believe supporting those most in need is vital to meeting the health and food security needs of the communities in which we work. It’s not a charitable aspect of our organization, it is our organization. It’s why we do what we do! To ensure that our food is equitably distributed, Sprout City Farms donates 10% of our harvest to local food assistance programs; allocates 50% of our CSA shares to food access and education through SNAP/EBT, WIC, and Solidarity shares, as well as work/trade and intern shares, and other programs for low-income households; and distributes produce through neighborhood farm stands using "suggested donation” prices. All in all, a minimum of one third (33%) of our total food production has always been dedicated to all of our diverse food access programs—and we increased this to 55% from 2020-2022 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Farm to Cafeteria

Back in 2011, we set a big precedent partnering with the public school district to build a production farm on school grounds and supply the kitchen with the food grown! The first-of-its-kind on-site Farm to Cafeteria program at the Denver Green School is still running strong. Our commitment to bettering the health of students means that we work within the budgetary limitations of the school lunch program. At Denver Green School, our farm produce is used for the salad bar as well as in cooked meals for about 7 out of the 9 months of the school year, and the farm is able to meet nearly all the produce needs of the DGS kitchen from August through October.
