Ellie Martz (she/her)
Sprout City Farms
Development Intern

Originally from southern Illinois, Ellie always had an interest in the intersection between food, land, and community systems. While studying Socio-Political Communications at Missouri State University, they became intrigued by local politics and sociology. Her studies led her to the firm belief that food is a powerful tool, connecting us all.

After graduation, they followed their heart to Aspen, Colorado where she began working in hospitality and witnessed the realities of waste in modern food systems. During a year-long stay in Australia, Ellie worked on permaculture and organic farms. She also worked in a Yoga Retreat Center kitchen that centered ingredients from on-site gardens. These experiences showed her that community resilience starts in the soil and brings people together on the plate.

When she returned to Colorado, she decided to push forward her goal of improving food systems by completing a Proposals and Grant Writing certificate at CU Denver to better understand the mechanics of non-profit development. They are thrilled to join the team at Sprout City Farms as a Development Intern and are excited to further their career in an aligned space and celebrate the joy of getting their hands in the dirt. Outside of work and school, you’ll find Ellie hiking, snowboarding, cooking for the people she loves, and practicing yoga. She loves to travel and experience new cultures and traditions.
