Brie Oakley (she/her)
Sprout City Farms
MAP Assistant Farm Manager
Growing up in Colorado, Brie has always loved the outdoors, adventuring to new places, and soaking up new experiences. After graduating college, she decided to work on a peony farm in Alaska through the WWOOF program. Inspired to keep growing and wanting to dive headfirst into the complexities of vegetable farming, she then apprenticed at Caretaker Farm in Massachusetts the next year. Finally making her way back home to Colorado, Brie farmed up in the mountains in Silt at Highwater Farm for a season and most recently worked as the CSA Manager in Lafayette at Red Wagon Farm for two full seasons.
She has experienced all the ins and outs of vegetable farming at different scales, from running weekly CSA pick-ups to leading volunteer groups through big harvest tasks to co-leading a Summer Youth Program for high schoolers on the farm. Through it, she recognizes it is not just about the food that is produced, but how the community can get involved in the farm that creates a lasting, powerful impact. Brie loves the small-scale agriculture model and its ability to strengthen communities and bring people together over local food. Some of her fondest memories have been from connecting with community members while performing various farm tasks, whether it was harvesting potatoes or hanging up garlic to cure or weeding in the flower beds.
Outside of the farm, Brie loves to run, practice yoga, learn new languages, and get creative in the kitchen. She and her partner enjoy backpacking and finding new trails to hike. Brie also loves to grow and cook with all kinds of peppers, spicy or sweet.
